When Bambalan re-opened their doors, a slice of sunshine returned to the city. Bringing together punchy flavours from the Mediterranean, the vibrancy of Bambalan (plus their rooftop terrace) makes them the ultimate summer spot. But just what will it be like to visit this city centre bar and restuarant in the coming months?  The team have kindly taken the time to let us know.

Super Saturday, Independents Day - whatever you call it, it’s now been some time since we opened our doors at Bambalan on the 4th July after over three months in lockdown. To say it was a weird feeling would be the understatement of the year, but for all of us, our customers included, things have definitely changed.

New safety measures at Bambalan

The first challenge for us, and everyone in the hospitality industry, was implementing everything we needed to adhere to the new social distancing guidelines. For us this involved transforming our games terrace to bring in plenty of new seating, allowing more people to sit outdoors, and rearranging our indoor space to allow plenty of room. Imposing limits on how many people can book together and taking details, as well as implementing strict regular deep cleaning have all been part of our new normal. Ahead of reopening we put a lot of time into creating our group restaurant manifesto, which details everything we’ll be doing to make our venues safe for our team and our customers (you can take a look here) and having that on hand to help us, as well as help our customers, has been massively helpful.

As well as giving our space a brand new look we decided reopening was the perfect time to give our menu a bit of a revamp too. Our food and drinks menu has had a total refresh, designed to be enjoyed (ideally!) in the sunshine on the terrace with a few drinks, and we’ve had some amazing feedback so far. As well as our new mezze selection, including fried baby squid with aioli and lemon, Heirloom tomatoes with mozzarella and pesto and traditional Mediterranean croquetas, you can also get stuck into a whole host of fresh new salads and grill dishes. Some of our favourites include our 10oz dry aged ribeye steak, our take on the traditional Caesar salad and our Asian fried chicken has been going down with a storm so far! And don’t worry - we’ve still got classics like our Big Bam burger and a brand new Beyond Meat vegan burger too.

If you’re just visiting for drinks there’s plenty of new cocktails to choose from too - our current favorites are our Blood Orange Negroni, a tasty mix of Beefeater Blood Orange Gin, Vermouth and Campari, our classic Tommy’s Margarita, and of our course it wouldn’t be summer at Bambalan without an Aperol Spritz or two.

We’ve loved seeing so many people coming to visit and showing their support to the Bristol food and drink scene since we’ve been back open, and we’ll forever be hugely grateful. Here’s to making the most of the summer and to seeing you all soon!


Bambalan Bristol brunch

The latest venture from the Hyde & Co group, Bambalan burst onto the Bristol food scene in May 2016 and has fast become a firm favourite for laid back drinking and dining ever since!
