The 6 O’clock Gin name was inspired by a long-held family tradition of indulging in the first G&T of the evening at 6 o’clock; a very British custom, still enjoyed at the distillery and shared by gin-lovers all over the world – after all, it’s always 6 o’clock somewhere.

Who doesn’t love a delicious mulled drink at this time of year? Whether it’s wine, cider or even a festive punch, there’s something very comforting about clasping your hands around a toasty mug and inhaling warming aromas of citrus and spice on a chilly evening. 

Mulling beverages dates back to the 2nd Century, when Romans would heat wine in the winter to defend their bodies against the cold. As the Roman Empire grew, the love of mulled wine spread across Europe and variations developed in many countries, combining different spices and spirits to create a whole host of flavours. 

Our simple take on a mulled serve incorporates our fantistically fruity 6 O’clock Gin Damson and a subtly-spiced apple juice for a sweet, plummy winter warmer perfect for keeping the cold at bay on a frosty night. 

How to make the cocktail

  1. Start by infusing cloudy apple juice with your favourite winter spices. We tend to allow 200-250ml apple juice per serving and add one Pukka Vanilla Chai teabag per 400-500ml of juice used. Alternatively, you can add a small selection of whatever whole spices you have in your cupboards – cinnamon sticks, star anise, cloves and cardamom all work well.
  2. Gently heat for around 20 minutes, before decanting into your favourite mug and adding 50ml 6 O’clock Gin Damson.
  3. Garnish with a cinnamon stick, some star anise or a wheel of orange to add a zesty note. All that’s left is to sit back, relax and sip away.
