The upcoming Valley Fest is the best-tasting music festival in the South West. Taking place alongside Chew Valley Lake, near Bristol, between 4 - 7 August 2022. For today's #FoodFriday, Valley Fest's Festival Coordinator Nell Robins shares her top tips on what the festival has to offer.

At Valley Fest, we like to champion the incredible food offering we have in the South West, making us the best-tasting music festival in the region.

This year we have very excitingly teamed up with Josh Eggleton and his team from The Pony Group to help us curate a droolworthy line-up to welcome everyone back to the farm at the start of August. As someone who experiences the purest kind of joy when tucking into something delicious, this year’s line up is getting me particularly excited!

Festival Feasts

A longstanding favourite at Valley Fest are our Feasts, which offer you a chance to sit down to a delicious, locally sourced and intricate meal, while still being surrounded by all  the excitement of the festival. This year, Josh’s team will be heading up each Feast with some very special guests.

On Friday, we have the much-loved annual Feast from Root. This will be a vegetable-focused five-course banquet from Root’s head chef Rob Howell, joined by Pegs Quinn from Souville’s favourite neighbourhood restaurant, Sonny Stores (this one I’m particularly excited for!).

Following that, on Saturday, The Pony Bistro team will be cooking up a seafood storm, led by head chef, Hugo Harvey, with Josh cooking alongside.

Finally, back by popular demand on Sunday will be the Chew Valley Sunday lunch, with Josh and Toby Gritten from The Pump House. Also joining on Sunday will be Hannah Catley, who you might recognise from The Great British Bake Off: The Professionals and for her Bristol bakery, Lockdown Loaves.

Chef Demos

Each day we have a full programme of chef demos as well as chefs teaching us how to tackle cooking over fire; both of these are completely free to watch. Plus, new for this year, we will be running some family cookery classes.

On the Chef Demo Stage, in partnership with NE Appliances, we have some of the top South West names joining us. Expect the likes of Mark McCabe from The Ethicurean, Kalpna Woolf with her new book 91 Ways, Tam and Amy, the founders of Ahh Toots, Larkin Cen from Woky Ko, Nicholas Balfe from Holm Somerset, and many more. Plus to get us in the Friday mood we have the team from 6 O’clock Gin helping us make a top tipple.

Cooking Over Fire

We will be turning up the heat on the Cooking Over Fire stage, with Bristol favourites such as Henry Eldon (previously The Cauldron), the team from Ubuntu Food and ITV’s BBQ champion, Simon Dyer, and many more.

Sunday Sessions

There’s also a very exciting comeback for Sunday Sessions, which will see some of Bristol’s top chefs come together to cook up some treats for everyone to try. Joining us will be Pete Sanchez-Iglesias, from Michelin-starred Casamia and Paco Tapas, George Livesey from Bulrush, Elliott Lidstone from Box-E, Jake Platt from The Bristol Lido, Josh Eggleton and more.

Street food

As well as all of the above, we will have over twenty street food stands to choose from throughout the weekend, so you can tuck into delicious treats while listening to the likes of Travis, Clean Bandit, Faithless and so many more.

About the author:

Nell is the Festival Coordinator for Valley Fest. Although this is her first official year in the role she worked along the team assisting in the 2021 festival and attended as a punter for many years before. As a huge festival fan, when the opportunity arose to be able to use her passion and knowledge to help others to have the best festival experience it seemed like the perfect fit. When not working she is out in Bristol taking full advantage of its incredible food offering, often with a Springer spaniel in tow.
