The iconic Bristol International Balloon Fiesta is returning to its home at Ashton Court Estate to celebrate its 44th year next week from Thursday 11 to Sunday 14 August.

Europe’s largest annual ballooning event will once again attract hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the world to witness one of the most stunning sights in the UK, with mass balloon ascents at 6am and 6pm and two iconic nightglows lighting up summer.

Visitors can expect to see some of their favourite colourful and special shaped balloons returning this year, and can watch the flights from the best seats in the house in the brand new private enclosure, Sky Lounge.

For those curious about grabbing a bite to eat on the day, the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta team have shared their recommendations with us for some of the best on-site eats…

Simply Duck

Bringing their street food menu from Canary Wharf to the fields of Ashton Court for this year’s Fiesta, you can expect Simply Duck to do exactly what it says on the tin, and do it well!

Adding duck to a range of Asian street-food classics, from gyoza to noodles and spring rolls, Simply Duck combines fresh flavours and delicious veggies to create the perfect selection of lunchtime dishes.

But it’s not all duck! A range of tempting vegetarian options are also available, including a tofu alternative, which is just as good as the real deal.

Oh Crepe!

For those with a sweet tooth, we can wholeheartedly recommend Oh Crepe as the perfect spot to satisfy your sugary cravings. Founded in South Devon as a family-run business, Oh Crepe offers classic crepes topped with sugar and lemon, as well as a fully indulgent Oreos and Cream delight…the perfect weekend treat.

Oh Crepe can also double up as a delicious dinner option with a menu of savoury crepes on offer, including the aptly named Sir Francis Bacon which features the Fiesta team’s favourite combo of French brie, streaky bacon and sweet chilli jam!

The venue is determined to spread the love for sweet and savoury delights alike, and have a range of vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options on offer for everyone to enjoy.

Hush Hush Chefs

London-bound pastry wizards Hush Hush Chefs are an absolute go-to for the Fiesta team. Offering foodie goodies from pies to quiches, pastry rolls and triangles, they always deliver on taste.

From honey roast ham and cheese to mushroom and roasted pepper fillings, a whole host of pie options are sure to warm you up during the brisk evening balloon ascents. But for a quick grab and go lunch, sausage rolls are your best bet for both a filling and delicious snack. Plus, a variety of vegan options are on offer, ensuring everyone can enjoy the very best of Hush Hush Chefs.

Hot Diggity Dog

Plymouth-based food vendor Hot Diggity Dog undoubtedly offers the best hot dogs on the market, and they’re bringing them on-site to this year’s Bristol International Balloon Fiesta. From spicy chilli dogs to chicken nuggets and chips as well as the classic donner wrap, this vendor serves up typically British bangers which are bound to have you saying hot-diggity-dog!

We can also recommend the Hunters Chicken and Cheesy Bacon wraps for something salty and savoury on-site at Ashton Court Estate.

About Bristol International Balloon Fiesta

First launched in 1979, the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta has become an annual event integral to the city’s summer scene each year. It has since expanded to become the largest annual balloon festival in Europe, welcoming balloons from across the globe.

Over one hundred balloons will be taking to the skies at this year’s Balloon Fiesta in both morning and evening ascents, featuring a few newbies and old favourites which will delight viewers across the four-day event.

After a series of Covid-safe community launches last year, this year’s Fiesta returns in full swing, including live music, fairground rides, street-food vendors and the exclusive Sky Lounge to enjoy the flights from the stunning site of Ashton Court.
