Song fact
This lyric is from the song of the same title, 'It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year by Andy Williams.' Andy Williams went on to record seven more Christmas albums, and this song appeared on every one of them. The song's popularity, paired with the singer's penchant for gaudy sweaters and holiday TV specials, earned him the nickname "Mr. Christmas."
The song has been re-recorded many times over by many different artisits including Johnny Mathis, Garth Brooks, Hanny Connick Jr and Pentatonix.
The illumination is on the side of the H&M on Penn Street. Admiral Sir William Penn (who street is presumably named after) is buried in St Mary Redcliffe Church. Among the very many dubious things he did in his life, one was to be a close colleague and General for Oliver Cromwell. Cromwell famously 'cancelled' Christmas from 1643 until the Reformation in 1660.
And just as Andy says, find out why it's the most wonderful time of the year in Bristol, with all the festive merriment, events, food and drink, light trails and Christmas stays on our special Christmas in Bristol hub.
The project is part of Bristol City Centre BID’s #LoveBristol campaign which promotes the recovery of the city, bringing together 100s of businesses to help create the festive trail. New to this year is the partnership with Redcliffe and Temple BID, adding many new and iconic locations to the attraction.
Bristol’s Cabot Circus offers the ultimate shopping experience, bringing together a host of high-street and designer brands and confirming the city’s status as the South West’s style capital.
