The RWA showcases national and international visual art, featuring foremost artists from the past and present. We are the UK’s only regional Royal Academy of Art - one of only five in total including those in Ireland, Scotland, Wales and London. The RWA is a registered charity which has been self-supporting for over 150 years and possesses an outstanding Grade II* listed building, galleries and permanent fine art collection. The RWA has HM Queen Elizabeth II as its patron and enjoys the support of leading individuals and businesses in Bristol and beyond.
The RWA Galleries offer the perfect opportunity to entertain staff, associates, clients and friends in a magnificent listed building with our exhibitions acting as a unique backdrop. From conferences and meetings, to receptions, launches, dinners or evening wedding receptions; the RWA is a stunning setting for truly special events in the centre of Bristol.
The RWA has five spectacular, naturally-lit galleries on the first floor available for hire. With beautifully constructed interiors, wooden floors and marble friezes, these magnificent 19th century rooms have housed works from the all the big names in British Art including Turner, Constable, Nash and Hockney. The RWA’s artistic programme brings together a wonderful of mix historical works alongside inspiring pieces by our current Academicians, bringing high profile exhibitions by established artists to Bristol.
The main galleries are available for private hire every evening for events of up to 400 people. For an evening drinks reception, the galleries are without doubt one of the most atmospheric and unique spaces in Bristol. Guests can arrive at 6pm where they are able to mingle under the beautiful Walter Crane Lunettes on the marble landing and enjoy drinks and canapés in the galleries or on the balcony. The Sharples and Winterstoke Galleries can seat up to 200 for dinner and the smaller Milner Gallery can be hired separately to provide an intimate dining space for up to 30 guests. All types of events are catered for at the RWA - from drinks and canapé receptions to silver service dinners. Their in-house caterers, The Epiphany, bring the same high quality service found in the RWA cafe to private events.
In addition, the galleries are available for day time conferencing for up to 200 people on Mondays and the Fedden Gallery on the lower ground floor is available for hire every day. Equipped with digital projection, audio facilities and Wi-Fi, the Fedden Gallery provides an ideal setting for meetings, lectures and seminars for up to 50 people.
