Sector Based Work Academies

This is similar to the Pre-employment training, but aimed at helping employers to recruit new staff. Sector Based Work Academies are a partnership that enable employers to employ a workforce with the right skills to sustain and grow their business. 

Training is designed and agreed to meet the specific needs of the business and in some cases, can act as the induction programme.  This has proven successful with many employers in meeting their immediate and future recruitment needs. On the flip side, Sector Based Work Academies also help to secure employment for those currently on benefit that are ready for work.

The Bristol Employment, Skills and Training’s (BEST) Tourism & Hospitality Sector Based Work Academies have three main components:

  • Pre-employment Training – Employment 1st; a sector specific 10 day training course (see below) equipping candidates with the basic skills required to start work in the tourism and hospitality sector
  • Work experience placements – supported by the Department of Work & Pensions with great benefits for the employer and individual
  • Guaranteed job interviews

Pre-Employment Training

At BEST we understand how important it is for employers to attract the right candidates into their business.

Employment 1st‘s new 10 day pre-employment training prepares people who are looking for their first job in a variety of roles, and leads to a nationally recognised Level 1 Award in ‘Introduction to Employment in the Hospitality Industry’. The programme covers core skills:

A Kitchen Services Diploma course (level 2) is also offered in partnership through City of Bristol College. This 12 week course incorporates 3 days / week at college, with largely kitchen–based practical work. Participants gain skills in producing cakes, soups, breads, desserts, main courses, look at healthy options, explore team working skills and kitchen health and safety.
