Blue Peter badge holders get free entry to Grand Pier

11th October 2018

Categories: Latest News

The jewel in the crown of Weston-super-Mare’s seafront is helping one of Britain’s best-loved children’s television programmes celebrate its Diamond anniversary.

The Grand Pier is marking the 60th anniversary of Blue Peter, the longest-running children’s TV show in the world, by becoming a Blue Peter badge site.

The first episode of Blue Peter was screened in October 1958 and soon became a firm family favourite.

The Grand Pier has become one of more than 200 attractions all over the UK that Blue Peter badge holders can get into for free.

All they have to do is show their badge and badge winner’s card at the Pier’s turnstiles. If a disabled badge holder is accompanied by a registered carer, both can gain free entry. (Carers must provide supporting documents).

If a paying adult is accompanied by two children with Blue Peter badges, both children will be allowed in free (some attractions only allow one free child entry per paying adult).

The offer is open to all Blue Peter badge card holders aged between six and 15 inclusive.

Tim Moyle, General Manager of the Grand Pier, said: “We’re proud to be associated with a television programme which played such a big part in the lives of so many people.

“Blue Peter is named after the blue and white flag hoisted when a ship is ready to set sail from port, and the name was chosen because the programme was intended to be a voyage of adventure and discovery for the viewers, constantly covering new topics.

“That makes the Grand Pier a perfect place for Blue Peter fans, because every visit to our attraction is a fun-filled adventure.

“And there’s no better time than the 60th anniversary month of the popular programme to announce that Blue Peter badge holders can get free entry to the Pier every time they visit.

“We look forward to welcoming Blue Peter badge winners to see what delights they can discover on the Pier in the coming weeks and months.”
