Johnny English Strikes Again – at Berkeley Castle!

3rd October 2018

Categories: Latest News

Berkeley Castle is about to star on big screens around the country as 'Johnny English Strikes Again' is released on Friday 5th October.

Imgae: Berkeley Castle staff with actor Ben Miller.

Filming took place over several weeks in 2017 when the Castle featured as the location for the G8 summit; thanks to the wonders of CGI technology it appears as if on a remote island in the middle of nowhere.

Visitors to the Castle were delighted to see Emma Thompson, Rowan Atkinson, Ben Miller and Bond girl Olga Kurylenko as they prepared for their scenes in and around the Castle.

A jetty was built on the steps to the lower lawn with a dingy attached which bobbed about as if on water – thankfully no flooding of the Castle grounds was required, the water will be added later with the aid of computer graphics!

There was also great excitement when a life-sized helicopter was built in the Inner Bailey and a new set of steps assembled in the Castle’s Great Hall.

The Castle is becoming increasingly popular as a film location and has been used for Poldark, Wolf Hall, The White Princess, The Spanish Princess, as well as many other documentaries and period dramas.

Berkeley Castle is open from Sunday to Wednesday each week until the end of October, 10.30am – 5pm (last admission 4pm). Berkeley Castle is located at Berkeley, Gloucestershire, GL13 9PJ. Tel: 01453 810303. For further information about the Castle and all events for 2018, please visit www.berkeley-castle.com. Follow the Castle on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram.
