Bristol Old Vic cast from ‘A Christmas Carol' will bring festive fun to the quarter on Thursday 15th November, 5-9pm

This November, everyone is invited to Wapping Wharf's festive light switch-on with a difference when the cast from Bristol Old Vic's ‘A Christmas Carol' bring the Spirit of Christmas to life at Bristol's buzzing harbourside community.

From 5pm-9pm on Thursday 15th November, Wapping Wharf will be filled with festive cheer for everyone to enjoy - with the fully-costumed steampunk style characters from Bristol Old Vic's Christmas production performing songs from the upcoming show. Travelling Folk Band ‘The Rubber Wellies', who are part of the cast, will also be performing.

At 6pm, Scrooge will step forward and officially turn on the beautiful Wapping Wharf Christmas lights which will then twinkle nightly throughout the festive season.

The event will mark the start of #latenightthursdays - when many of Wapping Wharf's independent shops will be open until 9pm every Thursday from 15th Nov to 20th December, meaning shoppers have plenty of time to browse for Christmas gifts.

On the night of the switch-on, Better Food has a Giant Pumpkin Soup Party planned from 6pm-8pm, a ticketed event offering soup made from a giant pumpkin accompanied with a craft beer or fruit punch and freshly baked bread, to raise money for its ‘Streets to Kitchen' project with Square Food Foundation, whilst Bristol Cider Shop will be serving hot spicy mulled cider. Cargo Cantina will be serving a ‘special' in the spirit of Christmas and Mexican festivities, the dish will be ‘Bacalao Campechana'- Salt Cod, roasted red pepper and ancho chilli salsa, which will be available from 15th November until 20th December.

Sam Mabley, of Brothers We Stand, representing all the Wapping Wharf businesses, said:

"It's so exciting to have the cast of ‘A Christmas Carol' here to turn on the Christmas lights - having first class performers here to entertain our visitors is a real privilege so come along and join in the fun.

"We can't wait to welcome visitors to late night Thursday shopping at Wapping Wharf across the Christmas period - there is always such a lively atmosphere here and over the festive season it's going to be a great place for Christmas shopping and enjoying time with family and friends."

Bristol Old Vic producer Catherine Morgenstern said: "We take Christmas fun very seriously here are Bristol Old Vic and are working on something extra special for this year's Christmas production. I know the cast can't wait to give the visitors at Wapping Wharf a sneak preview of what's in store and who knows, we might even manage to get Scrooge himself singing along!"

This Christmas-themed event is one of a series of upcoming music-themed performances in the lead up to Christmas, with choir performances scheduled for 6pm on 6th December and 2pm on 8th December and more in the pipeline.
