Young chefs go head to head for coveted Night of the Stars crown

5th December 2018

Categories: Latest News

Two of Bristol’s most promising chefs went head to head at the Marriot Hotel in their bid for the title Bristol Hoteliers Association’s Young Chef of the Year 2018.

Judges had shortlisted Dylan Jones from The Bristol and Eliza Brewer from Aztec Hotel & Spa for the culinary showdown held earlier this week.

Eliza Brewer presented Gin cured Salmon as a starter with a main of Ox Cheek, while Dylan Jones presented Scallops and a main of Pork Belly.

Judges Andy Brooks, Head Chef at Backwell House, Keith Rundle, City Centre BID, and James Matthew, Managing Director at Clevedon Hall, had the pleasure of sampling the dishes.

The Young Chef competition is a key part of the Bristol Hoteliers Association Night of the Stars celebration – culminating in a Gala black tie dinner on February 7 2019 where the overall winner will be announced.

BHA Chairman Imran Ali said: “Both candidates prepared two starters and a main. Young Chef of the Year is a highly prestigious and tightly contested title and this was a very high-pressure event.”

Thanking the Marriott City Centre Hotel for the use of the venue, Imran Ali said there had been no shortage of entries for the prestige title.

“Every aspect of working in the hospitality sector is tough – but there are plenty of people willing to put up with that pressure in order to get ahead in our highly competitive – but rewarding industry.”
