90 percent of tickets sold for New Order and The Specials

4th February 2019

Categories: Latest News

90 percent of tickets for both of Colston Hall’s one-off outdoor summer gigs featuring New Order and The Specials have sold within 72 hours.

The outdoor concerts which will take place on Thursday 18 July and Friday 19 July went on general sale on Friday 1 February and tickets are flying out the door. Fans of the legendary British band New Order and ska pioneers The Specials are advised to purchase their tickets quickly to avoid disappointment.

Taking place in the incredible setting of The Amphitheatre, the two nights of live music will lead Bristol into the biggest weekend of the summer, the Bristol Harbour Festival which takes place on 19 – 21 July.

The outdoor concerts form part of the Colston Hall Presents programme, which sees Bristol’s foremost concert venue programming in the city’s independent venues and unique spaces while Colston Hall undergoes its £48.8 million transformation.

On Thursday 18 July, legendary British band New Order will take centre stage, while ska pioneers The Specials kick off the weekend on Friday 19 July with their rock-steady beats and rude boys styles as part of their 40th anniversary tour.

This marks the fourth time Colston Hall has brought the music programme to the Harbourside, following Goldie and the Heritage Orchestra in 2015, Outlook Orchestra in 2017 and Jimmy Cliff and Grandmaster Flash in 2018.

Todd Wills, Colston Hall’s Artistic Director, said: “The Specials and New Order are arguably two of the most iconic bands of their time, so having them each play a one-off show in the height of the Bristol summer has proved exceptionally popular.

“There are currently tickets available but we don’t expect them to be around for long so if you wanting to kick off the biggest weekend of the summer with these legendary British bands we advise you to buy your tickets very soon to avoid disappointment.”

2019 marks 40 years since The Specials combined an infectious mix of danceable ska and punk attitudes, with a focused and informed political message. After a string of top 10 singles between ’79 and ’81 The Specials disbanded before reforming in 2009. Last year the group announced a 2019 UK tour to celebrate the release of their imminent new album, ‘Encore’ which will be released on Friday 1 February as tickets for their Harbourside gig go on sale.

New Order formed in 1980 by Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook, Stephen Morris and Gillian Gilbert, from the ashes of the legendary band Joy Division. Their integration of British post-punk with electronic dance music made them one of the most critically acclaimed and publicly loved bands of the era.
