Somerset bookseller partners with Bristol’s top independent publishers

Bookbarn has linked up with Bristol-based publishers Tangent and Bristol Books to extend the range of new titles available at its Hallatrow headquarters.

The move is part of Bookbarn’s drive to work more closely with businesses in the region.

Newly appointed Chief executive Nick Bates added: “The new ranges are selling well – people love books about their part of the world.

“By working closely with these well-established local publishers we are massively expanding our new book offering across a range of unique and interesting titles.”

Founded in Bristol in 2004, Tangent Books has been producing ‘quality books for the discerning punter’ ever since.

Deliberately and resolutely independent, Tangent Books maintains close relationships with the authors, designers and printers they work with to ensure that everyone involved in the production of one of our volumes gets a fair deal, as well as supporting local, independent business.

Bristol Books is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company formed in 2012. They invest in quality writing, research and design to ensure all their books are a success, chronicling and recording the rich heritage and culture of the city, both past and present.

As well as commissioning their own books Bristol Books also produce books on behalf of many local businesses, organisations and individuals.

Martin Powell from Bristol Books said: “All our titles have a local theme but the number of independent bookshops in the region has fallen in recent years and the big national chains are not set up to deal with local independent publishers. It is fantastic that Bookbarn have been added to our regional outlets as it is a real mecca for all things to do with books.”

Richard Jones from Tangent Books added: "It’s great to see Bookbarn supporting local publishing. Local books can define an area and reinforce its identity by capturing images, stories and events. We look forward to a long-lasting relationship with Bookbarn."

Founded in 2000, Hallatrow-based Bookbarn ships orders from their huge bookshop and warehouse in rural Somerset to customers all over the world.
