First Base partners with Bristol charities to help drive social value

First Base is committed to ensuring that their developments help deliver genuine social value to the communities in which they work. As such, First Base has partnered with three Bristol based charities, the Grand Appeal, Off The Record and 1625 Independent People, and will be working with each of these organisations as the proposals for the site progress.

Emerging proposals are set to deliver a new £175 million district comprising a mix of modern workspace, an apart-hotel, new homes, cafes and restaurants.

As part of their work with the Grand Appeal, Off The Record and 1625 Independent People, First Base enabled respondents to the online consultation survey, to gain points in return for responding to the poll. Respondents were then able to use these points to allocate a donation to one of the three local charities, enabling them to see a direct and immediate social impact triggered by their engagement.

Commenting on First Base’s work with 1625 Independent People the charity’s Chief Executive, Dom Wood said: “It is great to see First Base’s commitment to reach out through consultation to a wider and indeed younger audience with a great online process. First Base’s plans to bring a mixture of uses including retail and commercial, public space and housing is exactly what young people say they need in the area.”

Maxine Moustrides, Corporate Fundraiser for the Grand Appeal, said: “It is wonderful that First Base have chosen The Grand Appeal as one of their charities whilst they are working on the development of the Soapworks. The money raised will help seriously ill children from across the South West being treated in Bristol Children’s Hospital, and will give their families the support they need.”

Sylwia Korsak, Community Champion for Off The Record, said: “OTR Bristol is very pleased to be chosen by First Base as one of the three charities supported through their online consultation process. We are very impressed with the First Base approach to the consultation and the planning process for the development so close to our hearts here in the Old Market area. We are very grateful for all the received support and look forward to our future collaboration on youth engagement in the project as well."

Liam Ronan-Chlond, External Affairs & Stakeholder Relations for First Base, said: “At First Base, we are committed to proactive engagement and constructive consultation, in addition to being proud advocates of delivering genuine social value to the communities we invest in.

“We are delighted with the response to our initial public consultation and look forward to continuing the conversation with local people, as well as supporting local charities and community groups, as our proposals progress.”
