Papadeli is a definite Bristol icon. Mention the name and Bristolians get excited; “the brown-ies!”, “their takeaway salads!” “the Papadeli plate - full of the best cheeses, salads, meats, breads!”, “their cakes are legendary!”
Established in 2002, Papadeli is a deli and cafe full of the finest treats. Customers can choose lunch from the homemade food counter, a mouthwatering filled ciabatta, a stunning piece of cake, locally made pastries, a cup of Clifton Coffee, Devon’s Luscombe Farm juices or a simple plate of Bertinet toast and English Preserves jam.
The shelves all around are full of handmade chocolates, artisan cheeses, chutneys, crack-ers, snacks and treats, from all over Europe as well as many made in Bristol and locally, many that can’t be found elsewhere in Bristol. It’s a brilliant place to find a foodie gift, a luxu-ry hamper or dinner party ingredient. The home made food counter is packed with dishes from curries, stews, pies, arrancini, empanadas and fish cakes to imaginative, nutritious veg-etable dishes such as roast squash, toasted hazelnut and goat’s cheese or turmeric & cumin roasted new potatoes with saffron yoghurt dressing. You can eat in the deli, takeaway a lunch or supper, feed your dinner party guests or stock up the freezer. The atmosphere is super friendly with staff delighted to talk you through where the produce is from and make recommendations.
Above the deli there are two floors of busy kitchens. One is where the delicious food for the deli counter is made as well as food for events, from weddings to working lunches for local businesses. Papadeli chefs create original menus for buffets, canapés, picnics and sharing feasts. The other is home to their cakery and bakery where their baker creates the most mouthwatering cakes, pastries and tarts to order and for the deli and the cookery school, where professional chefs show you how to make delicious dishes in small, hands on classes.
Classes feature pasta making, tapas, seafood delights, British classics, Turkish and Greek mezze, creating a three course meal you can then sit down and enjoy (with a doggy bag to take home and share). Scheduled classes are advertised online and bespoke classes can be arranged for corporate team building, celebrations or get togethers.
Papadeli staff are committed to sourcing ethically produced ingredients with minimum impact on the environment. Where disposables are necessary, they are biodegradable. Eating Papadeli food, customers can be sure that they are eating carefully sourced, high quality food that both tastes and looks delicious, whether lunch from the deli, canapés or a buffet at an event or carefully prepared dishes in the cookery school.
