Guilbert’s is the only remaining chocolate maker in the city of Bristol. Piers Guilbert opened his first chocolate shop/ factory at 40 Park Street 100 years ago. This site was bombed during the war and in 1958 Guilbert’s moved to Leonard Lane.
Re-branding and expansion has meant another move for Guilbert’s, determined to stay loyal to its heritage it has opened its new shop/ factory at the famous Foster rooms, former home of the 15th Century merchant John Foster, it’s believed to be the oldest Bristol building still in commercial use.
Guilbert’s still handmakes chocolates and confectionery by traditional methods. Although the candles under the chocolate bath have long been replaced by a light bulb, and an electric mixer is used instead of hand-mixing, everything else is done by hand- just as Piers Guilbert did a century ago.
The craftsmanship of the chocolatier is both an art form and a finely honed skill. A true passion for excellence means that every chocolate and fondant is handmade and hand dipped.
In store you will find their classic and modern handmade boxed collections, you can also choose from a superb selection of their best-loved loose chocolate creams, truffles and fondants.
