About
Bennett’s Patch and White's Paddock Reserve in the Avon Gorge has been created as part of celebrations marking Bristol’s year as European Green Capital in 2015. The Avon Gorge provides a lot of foraging opportunities for many different species of bats and other animals such as hedgehogs, slow worms and badgers. This area also is the home to many unique plant species.
The area used to be a neglected sports facility, but has been transformed to be a new haven for plants, flowers and wildlife, with over 4,000 new trees and 3 wildlife ponds. The paddock is very suitable for birdwatching and historical interest. Dogs are allowed into the area, but need to be kept under control. The reserve is great for walking and there is a trail which runs throughout the site.
Pedestrians can access the reserve at all times from the Portway, but car park and other facilities are only available during event days. The reserve can be reached by public transport, but the bus stops is about a 10 minute walk from the reserve, which makes the total journey 30 minutes from the city centre. When traveling by car, it will take between 15 and 20 minutes.
