Being a Difficult Woman at the Bristol Improv Theatre

About
Do you catch yourself apologising all the time? Are you scared to speak up in meetings, rehearsals or social situations? Are you scared of being called, or have you ever been called 'Difficult?'
In this 7-week in-person course, you'll learn to embrace the term. Using a combination of discussion, personal reflection, improv games and exercises you'll explore and build a Difficult Woman toolkit to help practice:
- Expressing your views
- Vocally supporting other women and oppressed groups
- The art of not apologising for yourself and making apologies matter
- Your relationship with the word 'no' and respecting when others set their boundaries
- Giving and receiving compliments
*Please note: this is using an inclusive definition of 'woman' and 'female'. This event is for all cis and trans women, as well as non-binary people who are comfortable in a space which centres the experience of women. The topics will be explored with the supportive and non-judgmental facilitation of Imogen Palmer who will invite participants to engage in activities at their own pace and personally reflect on how they apply to their experiences, informed by intersectionality. This is an exploratory course with a facilitator (who holds space for participants to discuss and explore in a supported environment) not a teacher (who imparts knowledge from a position of authority). A Wellbeing Representative will be available for participants to reach out to if they experience any challenges during the course.
Feedback From Attendees: - 'This may be the best course I have ever done in my life on any topic/skill. This was so meaningful and felt entirely safe and supported by Imogen and my coursemates. Truly inspirational.' - 'An empowering workshop in helping you reclaim/use your power through improvisation' - 'Awesome. Well structured, superbly led and very worthwhile.' - 'As soon as the workshop finished I straightaway described to two friends how I enjoyed the workshop: it felt a really safe space and I was really happy to be listening to other womxn and their experiences while reflecting on my own. The workshop explored topics like people pleasing, apologising, female competition and boundaries. I found the exercises enjoyable and it gave me lots to think about.'
