Tel: +44 (0)117 959 3757
Performing in Historic Churches where freed slaves and abolitionists are buried, including Scipio Africanus, Breaking the Silence celebrate 18th century Black British Abolitionists such as Olaudah Equiano and Mary Prince, who alongside Thomas Clarkson, Hannah More and William Wilberforce used the power of their stories to end the slave trade. Through speeches, personal narratives, and song, this performance tells their stories in their own words.

Written and Directed by Holly Maples, with dramaturgy by historian Inge Dornan, Breaking the Silence stars Ben Scheck as Olaudah Equiano, with Zari Lewis as Mary Prince, Sophie Morris Sheppard as Hannah More.
