William Barton is Australia's most celebrated didgeridoo virtuoso. The sounds that he creates from this apparently simple, elemental instrument are quite extraordinary; his performances generate awe, even disbelief, in his listeners.
Peter Sculthorpe, Australia's greatest composer of the 20th century, encountered Barton's genius late in life, and wrote a number of works for him, including a number of collaborations with string quartet.
The Brodskys, who have for a long time been enthusiastic advocates of Sculthorpe's quartets, have long wished to perform with William Barton.
This concert, on St George's Day, is that cherished opportunity, and one not to be missed for fans both of the Brodskys and for sounds from non-western cultures.
