Easter Flamingo Trail in Bristol Shopping Quarter

About

They like to do things differently in Bristol Shopping Quarter so this Easter, instead of bunnies or chicks, Broadmead, Cabot Circus, The Galleries and The Arcade will play host to a flamboyance of flamingos.

Following previous trails, which have featured camels, lions, zebras and elephants, the Broadmead BID team is once again joining forces with The New Room (John Wesley’s Chapel) and The Methodist Church’s Ark Bus this spring to create another exciting event – their biggest Easter trail yet!

Children of all ages from across Bristol have been decorating flamingos for the past few weeks and from Saturday 24 March until Saturday 7 April the 52 cardboard figures will be hidden around Broadmead, The Galleries, The Arcade, and Cabot Circus ready for young shoppers and their families to hunt down over the Easter holidays.

Love and tolerance

This year’s trail theme is ‘love and tolerance’.

Jenny Bourne from The Ark Bus says: “We live in a world where there are many tensions and conflicts and we wanted to explore how we can make a difference by being a little more loving and tolerant.

“Each of us is wonderfully unique and has the ability and skills to change situations for the better through our behaviour and actions.

“All the groups that decorated the flamingos were asked to consider how they demonstrated love. Not just love to their families, but a broader love; a love for the world in which we live. We asked them to consider how they demonstrated love in situations that they found difficult, maybe with people who did things that they did not agree with. We asked them to consider what they could do within their communities to make a difference so that people feel included and valued, and what they could do for the planet to show that they valued the wonderful creation that we have all been given.

“The flamingos are their interpretation of this theme.”

The flamingo trail map

Maps showing the locations of all 52 flamingos will be available from the information desk in Cabot Circus, Barber Brown on Bond Street, Specsavers in Merchant Street and the New Room/John Wesley’s Chapel in Broadmead. The trail map can also be downloaded HERE.

As you discover the flamingos please record their name in the grid provided on the back of the map. A chocolate treat awaits in The New Room (John Wesley’s Chapel) for all those who have had a go at the flamingo trail.

The New Room will host free craft mornings for families on 28 March and 4 April (both are Wednesdays) from 10.30am until 1pm. They also invite you to share your favourite inspirational quotes on the ‘Words of Wisdom Wall’, which will be located in the courtyard.
