Encounters Festival is the UK’s leading short film and animation festival and annual meeting place for new, emerging and established filmmakers and industry professionals.
Providing a single platform for celebrating talent and innovation, Encounters Festival presents an annual International Competition, Industry Programme and an inspiring selection of screenings, events and parties during the festival week in Bristol, UK, including more than 400 films and 60 events across 6 days.
Compass Presents: ARCADIA
Compass Presents: ARCADIA is an expanded cinema screening of the BFI’s newly released folk-horror feature Arcadia, an experimental and visceral concoction taken from deep within the BFI archives & scored by Portishead’s Adrian Utley and Goldfrapps’s Will Gregory. Taking place at the Boiling Wells Amphitheatre, located near the St Werburgh’s City Farm on Watercress Road, doors for this unique experience open at 7:30pm, with the screening commencing at 8:30pm.
Mercury nominated DJ Swami’s live electronic drum machines, synthesizer arpeggios and basslines are layered with the powerful distinct rhythms and melodies of the Punjab, synchronised with John Minton’s visual projections of original digital animations and cinematic Punjabi imagery.
After the successful introduction of Immersive Encounters in 2017, this programme expands further for 2018 including: VR cinema screening 360 films, VR theatre screening interactive work, Games for Change summit, holograms and much more.
Scratch ‘n’ Sniff Cinema
Scratch ‘n Sniff Cinema will present Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit. From Stinking Bishop to Bunny Burps immerse your senses in the duo’s first feature-length film from Aardman. Complete with giant vegetables, ‘Anti-Pesto’ and a mysterious beast on the loose, audiences will receive a card containing smells linked to scenes in the film, transforming their experience.
