Freedom of Mind opens up discussion around mental health and wellbeing through a series of events across Bristol, looking at all aspects of what mental health means and by doing this, create conversation, education and change.

Wellbeing Walk (With Dogs):  7th October, 10.30am - 12.00pm
Calling all dog lovers! Come along for a Sunday stroll featuring some furry friends, all in the name of mental health.
Enjoy the mood-boosting combo of nature, fresh air and (most importantly) dogs! Starting and ending at Café Retreat, this 2 mile will take you along The Downs in a circular route. The walk is open to everyone, whether or not you own a dog, so take time to paws and unwind.

Afternoon Tea Against Loneliness: 8th October, 1.30pm - 3.30pm
Tea and cake anyone? In a collaboration with LinkAge Network and Marmalade Trust this is an afternoon tea party for all ages, with older people especially welcome. There'll be a discussion on the issue of how to reduce loneliness and social isolation, and its impact on our wellbeing, along with playing a few games and a sing song too!

Film Screening of "I Made This For You": 8th October, 6.00pm - 8.15pm
£10.00 full / £8.00 concessions / £5.00
A moving documentary within a film which is full of all kinds of love – in which we meet Al (Gary Grant) alone, isolated and suicidal. I Made This For You is a last-ditch love letter, all at once sensitive, distressing and uplifting – an ode to friendship and connection which is brought to life by the cast's brilliant improvisations about real people they knew who had committed suicide or they were worried about. The resulting film is both important and overwhelming, capturing one version of a lost soul.

Spoken Word with Raise The Bar: 8th October, 7.30pm - 9.30pm

A night of mental health themed spoken word. Raise The Bar put on Bristol's biggest spoken word poetry events, showcasing the country's finest performers and hottest new talent.

Book Signing with Jonny Benjamin: 9th October, 7.30pm - 9.00pm

At Waterstones for an intimate evening with an award-winning mental health campaigner and author Jonny Benjamin. Jonny Benjamin was considering suicide when he was talked out of it by a stranger on a bridge. He then launched the viral "Find 'Mike'" campaign with the charity Rethink Mental Illness to find this man, and 2 weeks later Johnny was reunited with the stranger, Neil Laybourn. Since then he has launched the ThinkWell initiative to being mental health education into schools, as well as working in India to change attitudes towards mental illness. Delve deep into the topic of mental health with an interview, book signing and Q&A afterwards.​​​​

Body Image, Food and Mental Health Panel Discussion: 10th October, 6.45pm - 8.15pm
What is a healthy attitude towards food? Has modern dieting culture taken things too far? What can we do to promote a positive approach to our body image? In collaboration with Festival of Ideas, there'll be a panel discussion exploring relationships between food, body image and mental health, followed by a short Q+A. 

Mindful Yoga: 11th October, 1.15pm - 2.15pm

Come along for a chill session with Pure Yoga to embrace mindfulness and recharge.

Homelessness and Mental Health: 11th October, 7.30pm - 10.00pm
With the number of rough sleepers on the increase, it is important to address this issue head on. Examining the link between mental health and homelessness, discuss this topic with The Big Issue and other partners to work out what to do to best tackle homelessness within Bristol.

Boxing for Wellbeing: 12 October, 7.00pm - 9.00pm
Teaming up with Empire Fighting Chance to fight mental health stigma by putting on an empowering boxing taster evening for all abilities. Empire Fighting Chance works with young people to raise their aspirations and self-confidence, knowing that boxing can be a fantastic avenue to healthily channel emotions. Whether you've tried boxing before, or this is your first time, come along for a fantastic evening of exercise, talks, and community.

Music and Dance Taster Sessions: 12 October, 7.30pm - 9.30pm
Tickets: Adult: £ 8.00 Concession: £ 5.00
Get creative with an evening of singing, drumming and dance workshops. Take the time to focus on one or try all three! By the end of the evening, the three different activities will be fused together for one beautiful performance. All abilities are welcome.
