Join two curators for exhibition tours and an informative day of Art History.
Rob Airey will give an introduction to the life and work of Wilhelmina Barns-Graham and a closer examination of the themes and work found in the exhibition, 'Inspirational Journeys' which he curated.
The St Ives artists became known for pioneering an abstract avante-garde movement. They were inspired by the landscape of West Cornwall.
Which landscapes inspire you, the Welsh mountains? The Jurassic Coast?Perhaps landscapes outside of the UK interest you more, or landscapes in fiction?
Landscape painter Rachel McDonnell will give you a masterclass in landscape painting. Her own paintings, inspired by travels near and far, are often highly detailed.
You can bring photographs or other materials to the workshop to use for reference.
Suitable for 9-13 year olds.
Artist Kate Newington will lead a collage portrait-making workshop inspired by early twentieth century Cubist collages and the abstract art of the St Ives artists seen in the RWA exhibition.
Kate has been working with collage for many years. As a large-scale figurative painter she makes collage portraits and still life paintings to commission.
Participants should bring along a large (A4) full-face photo of themselves or of some objects that have significance, if possible. This is not essential but would be very useful for your still life or portrait picture. Magazines and other papers for collage will be provided.
Suitable for 7-12 year olds.
Parents must remain in the building but are encouraged to enjoy the cafe, galleries and RWA shop while their children are in the workshop.
