In the void created by the cancellation of most festivals, a new eco campsite has sprung onto the scene: Pop Up Paradise. It opens on 4 August and runs until 31 August, alongside Chew Valley Lake.
From the purveyors of the UK’s finest festivals, Pop Up Paradise is a campsite with a difference: after the restaurant closes, expect socially-distanced entertainment each evening: ranging from spoken word, musicians, world-class circus and cabaret, to talks, panel discussions and games. Not only that, holistic therapies, wellbeing and interactive children’s activities will also be offered throughout the month.
Social distancing measures will be in place. There will be limited spaces on site but with extended pitch sizes to ensure no overcrowding. Each social group will be encouraged to stay within their bubble. The restaurant is an open-sided tent offering table service. Each group will be allocated a table for the duration of their stay at the bar and restaurant area, with views of the stage so people can party in the safety of their own bubble.
Table service will be in place to avoid crowding at the bar. Regularly-cleaned compost toilets and hot showers will be provided - which will be cleaned after each usage by the dedicated cleaning crew. The dancefloor will be gridded out and theatrical characters will ensure safe distances are maintained.
The timetable of weekly activities will roll through the month. Campers can get involved with some, all or none of it!
Mondays are wellbeing days. Between 9 – 10:30 am yoga classes will be held, followed by a healthy breakfast, restorative yoga, then a set lunch. There will be an optional countryside walk or a snooze. Ending with an evening gong bath. However, one to one’s and level 2/3 classes available on request and provided by www.shantishala.co.uk. Furthermore, massage therapists will be available on request or pre-book on arrival.
Tuesday evenings will see Dick's Cheesy Bingo Night take to the stage. This game was developed for the Glastonbury Festival pier, a replica of a Victorian pier.
Wednesday evening will be hosted by Hammer & Tongue Bristol – featuring some of the world’s best poets and spoken word artists.
Thursday evening will be jointly curated by Breaking Convention (an organisation dedicated to understanding psychedelics) and The Word - the spoken word and poetry tent at Shindig Festival. Expect talks about tribal culture, mental health and medicine.
Friday will be hosted by Interstellar Circus. Expect world-class performers, circus, acrobatics juggling, clowning and some slapstick thrown in for good measure.
Saturday and Sunday will focus on musicians and artists – both established and rising stars.
A cinema tent will also be showing films for kids so grown-ups can have a little breather too! There will be some activities during the day such as occasional workshops but campers can also explore the local area, Bristol and Bath are 10 miles away and the stunning Somerset countryside is ideal for bike rides, beautiful walks and fishing on the lake. The reception staff are on hand to help you plan your fun.
There will be an onsite restaurant, offering a daily cooked breakfast using the finest organic ingredients. There will be two restaurant sittings during the evening all cooked by an internationally acclaimed chef, using local and organic ingredients. Vegetarian, gluten free and meat options are available. Furthermore, a pizza oven and burger bar will be open daily from 12-9pm.
There will also be an onsite campsite shop, selling organic vegetables fresh from The Community Farm, organic local meat, milk and eggs, as well as vegan plant-based alternatives.
For those who want some extra luxury and convenience, Pop Up Paradise offers accommodation in the form of boutique bell tents and Airstream caravans. These are available to hire via the website. Otherwise bring your tents, campervans and caravans.
