Princess Ida at Redgrave Theatre
Tel: +44 (0)117 3157 800
Once upon a time there was a princess called Ida, who had been betrothed in infancy to Prince Hilarion of the neighbouring kingdom. But Ida did not want to marry the prince. Instead, she renounced mankind and founded a women's university, where she wielded axes, ate cold roast lamb, and taught the theory of evolution with dubious accuracy.
Bristol Gilbert and Sullivan Operatic Society proudly presents Princess Ida, a hilarious twist on a traditional medieval fairy tale. Join Hilarion as he attempts to infiltrate Castle Adamant and woo his promised bride, enlisting the help of his friends Cyril and Florian. Inevitably, the three are forced to dress as women and hilarity ensues—but some things are not so certain. Can Ida, with dignity, her post resign? Or will Prince Hilarion's hopes be sadly blighted? And most importantly: what is the thing that's known as 'Man'?
