The 4 Pillars: 50 Years of Hip Hop

About

Film, music and more... Freestyle CIC and Bris-Story present a day of free screenings and activities to celebrate Hip Hop’s 50th birthday, exploring its four pillars - breakdancing, graffiti, DJing and rap – and how it has helped influence Bristol’s culture, leaving a lasting legacy.

From 5pm there will be screenings of two classic Hip Hop movies:

5pm: Beat Street (15), the 1984 film directed by Stan Latham and produced by Harry Belafonte, which focuses on a group of young graffiti artists, breakers, MC’s & DJ’s as they battle for success and recognition in the South Bronx during the 1980’s

7pm: Wild Style (15), the 1983 film directed and produced by Charlie Ahearn, which features seminal figures such as Fab Five Freddy, Lee Quiñones, Lady Pink, The Rock Steady Crew, The Cold Crush Brothers, Queen Lisa Lee of Zulu Nation, Grandmaster Flash and ZEPHYR.

This event is free but tickets for the film screenings need to be booked in advance at: freestylebristol.com/the4pillars

The 4 Pillars: 50 Years of Hip Hop is part of Bristol’s Summer Film Takeover and is being delivered as one of the activities under the City Centre and High Streets Recovery and Renewal programme, funded by Bristol City Council and the West of England Combined Authority’s Love our High Streets project.
