If you enjoy reading literature for pleasure, would like to build your confidence in discussing texts and be introduced to new ideas, this course could be for you.
This is a supportive group for readers who simply wish to share ideas about books with the guidance of a university tutor. Each term you'll study three texts linked by a common literary theme.
Summer term theme: Women who resist. We will read three novels that centre on women resisting the norms of their time in strange and radical ways:
The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins (1859)
Lolly Willowes by Sylvia Townsend Warner (1926)
Beloved by Toni Morrison (1987)
