Shopping

Old City

Shopping in Bristol Old City is centred around St Nicholas Market and the beautiful Glass Arcade based in The Exchange, a Grade I listed building. Explore the undercover market at your leisure, which is jam packed with clothing, gifts, cards, art, textiles and leather, sweets and chocolate and jewellery. The street food stalls and small restaurants in the arcade are a real treat for lunch and a wonderful experience on your visit to Bristol.

Get lost wandering around the maze of small stalls and soak up the delights of this vibrant and buzzing marketplace that has been trading since 1743. Every week, a farmer's market (Wednesday), a food market (Friday) and the Nails Market (Friday and Saturday) join the offering to give you the opportunity to buy some of the best local produce and local, independent traders selling an array of gifts. (Don't get caught out; the market is closed on a Sunday.)

In and around the markets are a variety of shops, including Stanfords the specialist travel and map bookstore on Corn Street and boats an impressive map of Bristol on the staircase wall.

The Old City is just a stone's throw away from the central shopping centre, Bristol Shopping Quarter, or Park Street and the Triangle, depending on which direction you're coming from.
