St Nicholas Markets Shopping Bristol

Established in 1743 St Nicholas Market is the oldest and best loved market in Bristol.

This vibrant and buzzing market place can be found in the heart of the old city, which is full of fantastic examples of Georgian Architecture and is only a short walk from all of the hotels in central Bristol.

Its historical architecture, fantastic stalls bursting with a wide variety of goods and food items, its quirky ambience combine to make the perfect place to shop, eat and enjoy. With over 50 stalls this market is a must see for any visitor to the city. St Nicholas Market is also home to several street markets which take place in the pedestrian streets which run adjacent to The Exchange Building.

St Nicholas Market was named as one of the ten best markets in the UK, and it is the living embodiment of what a market should be. And is home to the largest collection of independent retailers in Bristol.

Bristol Farmers Market

Every Wednesday Corn Street and Wine Street come alive with the hustle and bustle of traders selling the freshest produce available in the city. Farmers who have produced, grown or reared their produce within a 40 mile radius of the city attend the market selling a mouth watering selection of local goods, including freshly made apple juice, organic chicken, cheese, bread and much more. Come along to see for yourself, meet the traders and taste the 'Best of the West' at this award winning market.

Every Wednesday 9.30am until 2.30pm on Corn Street and Wine Street.

The 'Nails' Market

This market is named after the unique brass pillars that are located on Corn Street which used to be used for the Exchange of money between traders and their customers, hence the phrase 'Paying on the Nail'. The first of the 'Nails' appears to be somewhat older than the rest, and probably dates from late in the reign of Elizabeth I or early in the reign of James I. The other Nails are inscribed with the years 1630, 1625 and 1631 and are a real example of Bristol's trading history.

Many years later the sacks of corn and wheat have changed to hand crafted jewellery, pottery, photography, clothing and art work, many of which have been made by the traders themselves. Come along and visit the Nails Market, and really discover the difference.

Every Friday and Saturday 9.30am  - 5.00pm on Corn Street and Wine Street

The Slow Food Market

Are you fed up with fast food and a hectic lifestyle? Then The Slow Food Market may have just what you are looking for. Come along to this monthly market, where you will find over 30 traders selling a fantastic range of fresh produce such as meat, fish, game, cheese, and cider, all of which have been produced using artisan methods.  Take time out to talk to the producers, sample and purchase their products.

The First Sunday of every month 10.00am  - 3.00pm on Corn Street and Wine Street.
