When he’s not soaring through the sky in a hot air balloon, Bristol Balloons pilot and Managing Director, Nic Amor can often be found in the flight centre looking at the weather - a lot goes on behind the scenes to ensure a pleasurable and safe flight for passengers.

Here he shares his Bristol recommendations for places to take family, friends and a group of the company’s hungry ground crew (!) ahead of this weekend's Bristol International Balloon Fiesta.

Black Swan, Westbury-On-Trym

A traditional city pub where you can enjoy a drink and English-themed fayre, curry, chilli or a Cornish pastie. It’s dog-friendly too and Ruby and Otto are the resident pooches.

Bordeaux Quay

Set on the Harbourside, this place is great for special dining but also something a bit more informal when you are on the go. They do a mean full English breakfast too. Sit outside when the weather’s fine and watch Bristol go by…

Cambridge Arms, Redland

‘Friendly and bustling’ it says on their website and this is certainly true. Go for brunch, a traditional Sunday roast or something BBQ style.

Clifton Sausage

Sausage, sausage and would you believe sausage, with traditional accompaniments and wonderful specials such as ‘Sausage ‘n’ Cider’. Try the ‘Bottomless Brunch’ on the first Saturday of the month and you might have trouble standing up afterwards, oink!

Lona, Gloucester Road

Really popular and colourful Lebanese that serves great chargrilled meats, meze dishes and juice smoothies. It’s casual dining with a really lively atmosphere - we had an end of season crew dinner there, brilliantly different.
