As the founder and curator of Finzels Reach Market, Sophie Bowden spends her working week championing Bristol’s excellent foodie traders and producers. Here’s where she loves to eat and drink in her downtime, from tapas bars to a Turkish bakery.
Bar 44
I’ve been going to Bar 44 in Clifton ever since it opened, it never disappoints after a hard-working week. Simple pleasures such as a plate of their regional cheeses, Iberico ham and sourdough washed down with a bottle of Syrah makes me happy.

Bristanbul
Whenever I’m on Gloucester Road, I always make a beeline for this little gem. I love watching the Turkish pizza being made by hand in a corner of the bakery and their heavenly syrup-soaked baklava is the perfect match for my sweet tooth.
Crying Wolf
The opulent interior and top-class cocktail making skills at Crying Wolf makes this my go-to place for late evening drinks. Cocktails are elegantly executed with staff happy to go off-piste with the menu to suit my tastes including my personal favourite; a maple rum old fashioned.
Poco
Locally sourced ingredients, seasonality and strong cocktails; Poco holds a special place in my heart. From my very first memorable experience involving a Cornish oyster to last year’s epic birthday meal; its sustainable credentials, ambience, and ability to make you very welcome makes this a jewel in Bristol’s crown.
Finzels Reach Market
I may be biased but the quality of food on offer is some of the best in the South West. Whether you come on a Wednesday for the mouth-watering street food or on a Friday for the local produce; I carefully curate each market so there is a great selection, and often something new to try each week.
