As well as seeking out amazing food and drink experiences for Yuup, Ysemay Hackett-Evans is a mac and cheese maestro, as one half of the Alp Mac team. You might have spotted their bright red 1970s’ food truck at local markets.

Here’s where Ysemay loves to eat and drink in Bristol, in between working her foodie jobs.

I love a good old visit to the pub – Bristol is home to so many great ones, all with a different character. Particular shout out to the Merchants Arms (wonderful open fire in the winter), the Green Man and pubs of Kingsdown (a cheeky pub crawl here is a favourite), The Coronation (cats + cheap cider is a killer combo) and the Golden Guinea. All different, all fantastic!

One of the few benefits of lockdown has been the variety of different pop-ups that have sprung up. Bushi Sushi is a personal favourite (set to re-launch in October with a new focus on sustainability) as well as Pizza is Lovely. Grabbing a pizza and a pint to go from The Orchard and sitting by the harbour is hard to beat!

Best of the rest

There are too many fantastic independents to mention them all, but my best of the rest goes to Farro (a wizard when it comes to bread and pastry. I am fanatical about their baked goods!), Bravas (such a fantastic atmosphere and wonderful food every time that I visit), Psychopomp distillery (I used to live around the corner and their G&T is second to none – plus if you have finished your bottle you can take it back for a refill!) and the café at Underfall Yard for the most beautiful views of the harbour whilst enjoying a coffee!

Lots of dishes from Bravas
