The most hungrily awaited day of the year is almost here. Pancake Day, aka Shrove Tuesday, falls on Tuesday 1 March and we’re lucky to have stacks of places in Bristol where you can fill up on pancakes.

If you don’t fancy faffing around with the frying pan and whisk at home this year, get yourself to one of these restaurants instead.

Coppa Club

Enjoy some lighter buckwheat and rye pancakes with a choice of either berries, granola, seeds and coconut yoghurt or bacon, maple syrup and butter, available for breakfast during the week or until 3pm on weekends.

Chez Marcel

Enjoy a French twist on Pancake Day at this authentic Creperie in the Old City, serving savoury galettes made from buckwheat flour (which is gluten free) with choice of fillings, and a variety of sweets crepes.

Mud Dock Cafe

Pay a visit to Mud Dock on the Harbourside for hearty, freshly made buttermilk pancakes, available on their breakfast menu. There are four toppings to tempt you in for a stack: streaky bacon and golden syrup; berry compote, Greek yoghurt and golden syrup; braised apple and salted caramel, and Nutella, banana and hazelnut. Gluten-free diners will be pleased to hear you can tuck into pancakes without gluten here at no extra cost!

Mollie's Motel & Diner

Get cosy in a booth or sit at the high-top country to enjoy a pancake stack in this modern take on a 1950s classic American Diner. Not in the mood for pancakes? You can opt for waffles instead, or other classic American food alongside sodas and hand-spun milkshakes.

Browns Brasserie & Bar

Classy brunch spot Browns on Queens Road has a menu of scrumptious breakfast classics, including buttermilk pancakes. Have yours smothered in either mixed berries, cherries and Greek yoghurt or smoked pancetta with savoury nut granola and maple syrup. They also do pancakes as part of their bottomless brunch menu, which is available Friday to Sunday until 2pm.

On Aqua’s brunch menu you can find heavenly homemade pancakes, served with blueberries, strawberries mascarpone and maple syrup. Pancakes also make up the second course of Aqua's popular bottomless brunch, served every Saturday from 9.30am – 4pm.

Perfectly paired with one of their brunch cocktails, seek them out in one of their two Bristol locations – Welsh Back and Clifton – or over in Portishead.

The Coconut Tree

Expand your pancake horizons beyond the usual crêpes or American-style pancakes by ordering a hopper at The Coconut Tree in Clifton or on Gloucester Road. This Sri Lankan dish is a bowl-shaped coconut milk pancake served with coconut sambal, seeni sambal (caramelised onion with a hint of cinnamon) and Luna Miris (Sri Lankan salsa).
