Bedminster is Bristol’s Art District, with every nook and cranny of this famously working class area dawbed in paint by some of the world’s most prolific street artists.
It’s home to well-known street art festival Upfest. The Upfest team has created an online mural trail to give you a taste of the area and to guide you through some of the latest murals to appear in the area.
Indulge in a treat from an independent bakery, grab a pint in a local pub, grab a gift from an independent trader and explore one of Bristol's oldest and most creative neighbourhoods.
And if you want to get involved and contribute to the Art District yourself, there are plenty of workshops on offer for you to try your hand at many different mediums. MAKE is the place to be if you’re keen to master the craft of pottery, or why not brush up on your Spanish skills while enjoying some traditional Spanish food and drink at El Rincon. Or if a playful environment is what you’re craving, get yourself to Trylla to experiment with ceramics and other crafts.
At any time of year, you can take a walk around the numerous art galleries distributed throughout the Art District, including North Street Gallery, Silver and Steel and Independent Design Collective.
Catch live music, comedy and theatre with some world class venues including The Comedy Box or ACTA Theatre’s community-driven plays. For a bit of everything, The Tobacco Factory offers no shortage of gigs, live music, artistic productions and acting workshops.
The walls of Old Bookshop are lined top-to-toe with murals created by world class talent. Or for art in your hands while you drink, the Alpha Bottle Shop’s brews feature beautifully designed labels from Bristol and international names.
Shopping ‘independent’ has never been easier thanks to the plethora of artisans and crafters in the area. Surprise your loved ones with gifts from Glass Designs or Mon Pote, or treat yourself to beautiful, one-off jewellery pieces from Tamrakar on North Street.
In January you can catch the mezmerising Bedminster Lantern Parade, with hundreds of lanterns created by local school children and community groups. In Spring catch South Bristol Arts Trail where residents open up their homes to showcase their own creations, or check out Window Wanderland, art created on the streets by residents keen to show off their skills to the outside world!
