Every autumn for the past ten years Source have held an oyster festival to celebrate the start of the Native Oyster season.
These small, flat, disc shaped oysters grow wild in the rivers and estuaries of Britain and much like game, they have a season to help protect them. Source have been busy gathering over two thousand oysters from twelve different locations across the UK and Ireland for this four day festival so come along and try an amazing selection of favourites from the past decade.
There will be a special menu of cooked and raw oysters available in the café running along-side the daily menu featuring some of the best loved dishes from the past ten festivals such as Tempura oysters with Yuzu dressing, leek and oyster velouté and steak tartare with a deep fried oyster.
Oysters are not to everyone’s taste but if you are interested in trying one please come in and they'll show you the best technique for opening and enjoying these healthy and nutritious crustaceans.
Their fishmonger will also be at the St Nicks Farmers’ market on Wednesday doing demos and talking about the historic links between oysters and man and the amazing health benefits of eating oysters.
This is your chance to sample a mixed dozen from all over the UK on the same plate with tasting notes along with wines and beers to match. Oysters are available during café opening hours and late night on the Friday the 12th but please make reservations.
