Clifton Lido food and pool

About

The Lido is a uniquely Bristolian experience: a 21st century take on a Victorian institution. The restaurant sits in the old viewing gallery, with a wonderful vista of the pool, which is dramatically lit at night. The Lido menu is updated daily and takes inspiration from Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisine. The chef uses only the best local, seasonal produce, some of which is grown in The Lido’s own kitchen garden in Pill and the wood-fired oven gives a distinct, subtly smoky style, as food critic Jay Rayner concurs below.

“Here, on a menu which takes much of its inspiration from southern Europe, and many of its ingredients from its own kitchen garden, wood roasting is reserved for quail and venison, fish and potatoes, and that marvellous bread. Flavours are big and the essentials carefully managed. They make very fine pasta, for example, of the soft, silky, egg-yellow type, used here in ravioli of venison. The meat is long-braised to a tangle of glossy fibres, the pockets dressed with soft cubes of roasted pumpkin and an artery-hounding sage butter. Discs of more pumpkin turn up deep fried, drizzled with a slick of honey and with crumbly lumps of a mild goat's cheese, the whole sprinkled with oregano. It is a very simple, very effective plateful.” Jay Rayner, The Observer.

The poolside bar serves some of the best cakes and pastries in Bristol, all home baked by our craft baker, alongside loose leaf teas and freshly roasted coffee. If you’re after a quick bite downstairs, tapas and light meals are served from 12pm until 10pm, and in the summer, you can take advantage of the outside sun terrace, whilst watching the swimmers plough their lengths!

Relaxing setting, reasonable, if not extensive, menu yet marred by really poor service. Staff generally friendly, although one was slightly spikey, throughout our 90 minute breakfast session. Asking... Read full review

Number of us were treated to dinner, unfortunately several were ill afterwards, including me. The pool looks ok but it's best not to trust the kitchen. I put April 2016, but it was earlier than this. Read full review

There's no doubt that the unique atmosphere at Lido is the primary draw, with the balcony and terrace restaurant rooms looking over or across the swimming pool with the original old changing rooms... Read full review
