About
Burledge Hill is part of a limestone plateau as well as a part of the Mendip Hills and has panoramic views over Chew Valley Lake. The nature reserve includes a beautiful grassland with many different kinds of flowers. The flowers that can be found there are cowslip, devil’s bit scabious, saw-wort and lady’s mantle.
As a result of the flower fields there are an abundant number of butterflies and songbirds fluttering around in the summer.
The Mendip Hills are an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and Burledge Hill is perfect to get away from it all and to enjoy the stunning views.
The best time to visit the reserve is from April till August but the reserve is open at all times. There is a public footpath that runs through the site, but the path and steps may become muddy during winter. Also there are some steep slopes to be cautious about. Dogs are allowed, but have to be kept on lead. When travelling by car you will arrive at Burledge Hill in about 30 minutes from the city centre. By bus it will take approximately an hour and 15 minutes. Entry to this nature reserve is free of charge!
