About
Winterbourne Musical Theatre presents Gilbert & Sullivan's well-loved comedy The Pirates of Penzance from 15 - 17th May at 7.30pm, and Saturday 18th May at 2.30pm (matinee), at Winterbourne Community Centre WADCA.
The plot revolves around the ramifications of being born on 29th February in a leap year. Originally written more than 140 years ago, the show's words have been partially updated and are still relevant and funny. The story poked fun at the English upper class sense of "Duty."
The title was partly a dig at the theatrical "pirates" who were staging unlicensed Gilbert and Sullivan productions in America in Victorian times.
The show is packed with well-known songs which are still frequently heard in modern productions from TV adverts to Disney films and comic songs.
