East Bristol

One of Bristol's best-kept secrets, East Bristol is the gateway to gorgeous countryside, wildlife and walks.

East Bristol acts as the jump-off point from the city into the countryside, mixing different landscapes from park to water to woodland, bursting with wildlife and scenic views and generally being one of the best-kept secrets about the city. Bristol has more green spaces than any other city in the UK and East Bristol is a perfect example of this.

Green Spaces Galore

The East of Bristol is a diverse area where you can find walks, cycles, picnic opportunities, history, heritage and wildlife, from cormorants to deer. Discover East Bristol is a wonderful website and interactive map showing all the parks, nature reserves and other green spaces that you can discover and enjoy.

Find the Grade II-listed heritage park at Stoke Park and walks up and down the River Avon, and the Feeder Canal. There is also St George Park with its thousands upon thousands of trees.

Near Fishponds you'll find Oldbury Court Estate, which is a beautiful and diverse estate, combining woodland and riverside paths with historic parkland and excellent children's play facilities. Only three miles from Bristol city centre, the estate is a great place for a family day out and is popular with walkers for its varied landscape and panoramic views. Beyond the parkland you can follow the path down to the river Frome, where trails leads either towards Frenchay (home to the Glenside Hospital Museum) or, in the other direction, towards Snuff Mills, a picturesque and historic section of the Frome Valle. From there if you head onto Eastville Park you'll find medieval Wickham Bridge, the oldest bridge in Bristol.
