Bookbarn moves the Full Stop to create more room for café

9th April 2018

A sustained increase in visitor numbers has prompted a wide-ranging refurbishment programme at Bookbarn International’s Hallatrow headquarters.

The popular Full Stop Café will be closed for a week in mid-April to allow a comprehensive expansion of the facilities to deal with increased demand from rising numbers of visitors.

Chief Executive Fenna Leake said: “The Full Stop Café is an integral part of the business and we know it encourages people to come back to us again and again.

“The café has grown into a busy little place serving fresh homemade food and cakes throughout the day - but we need to enlarge the café kitchen area to make room for café staff to work and also upgrade the equipment to cope with demand.”

The seating areas are going to be upgraded and we want to give the cafe a fresh new look too. The counter is being made in house from up-cycled pallet and scaffolding wood.

In response to requests from the public, the Somerset-based bookseller has also created a breakout area for students and people requiring a quiet place to plug in laptops or hold meetings.

The breakout area will feature a display of the unique and interesting items found in books.

Fenna added: “Our cosy lounge area has been attracting locals for years, but increasing numbers of students are using the facilities and we needed to create a dedicated area for them to study as far away as possible from the hustle and bustle.

“Over the past year we have seen a significant increase in custom – especially after we adjusted our opening hours in response to calls for an earlier start to coincide with the breakfast school run. We believe this reflects customers’ lifestyles.

“All of our cakes, soups, salads and snacks are made on the premises by our team and vary day to day as do our range of cakes depending on the season. All our food is vegetarian and there is plenty that is vegan or can be adapted to a gluten free diet. Wherever possible we try to use local organic ingredients.

“Lots of our fruit, veg and eggs come from The Community Farm in the Chew Valley. We use lots of organic veg and we only use free range eggs.”

In order to carry out the work, Bookbarn International will be closed from Sunday April 8 to Friday April 13.

Founded in 2000, Bookbarn International is one of the largest booksellers in the UK - shipping orders from the warehouse in rural Somerset to customers all over the world daily.
