The UK’s newest beach, created using more than 120 tonnes of sand, has been unveiled at Longleat.

Life’s a Beach at Longleat Whatever The Weather

The spectacular new indoor feature, part of the Wiltshire attraction’s Australian Summer event, was officially opened with a sand sculpture featuring Longleat House and a giant koala.

Other fun features include deckchairs to lounge in, a Longleat-inspired graffiti wall, coloured sand, surf-style wobble boards, table tennis, Aussie-themed games, musical instruments and refreshments.

“The beach is the perfect place to kick off your shoes and feel the sand between your toes,” said Longleat’s Daisy Mercedes.

“We wanted to build a beach that could be enjoyed whatever the typical British summer has in store.

“To be honest we were expecting it to provide a great escape from the rain but during the recent heatwave, the fact it’s fully air-conditioned, has also made it a haven from the hot weather,” she added.

Running until 2nd September, Longleat’s ‘Australian Summer’ celebrates all things Aussie and also marks the opening of Koala Creek at the Wiltshire attraction earlier this year.

Each day is filled with antipodean activities and entertainment, honouring the arrival of the iconic marsupials.

The Main Square is hosting a dynamic, daily programme of performances including high tempo dancing, live didgeridoo music plus astounding and acrobatic breakdancing battles along with a brand new song, recorded by Longleat’s very own choir.

The fun culminates with an unmissable Australian farewell, in the form of the End of Day Hooroo, as the performers come together in a choreographed spectacle of colour, music, dancing, pyrotechnics and excitement which visitors are encouraged to join in with.

The inspiration for the whole event is Koala Creek itself; home to England’s only koalas. It features a natural stream, climbing poles and trees, naturally-themed indoor and outdoor habitats, viewing areas, interpretation boards as well as a koala care unit.

With its world-famous Safari Park, magnificent stately home, amazing attractions and special events Longleat’s an astonishing kingdom filled with family fun and adventure.
