The RPS and Martin Parr Foundation

Tour some of the photographic exhibitions in and around Bristol. Bus numbers 1, 57, 349 and X39 coming from around Bristol, and from Bath, all stop at Paintworks creative quarter in Arnos Vale.

Here you can follow the signs for Photohub to find The Royal Photographic Society (open Monday to Sunday, and Bank Holiday Mondays, 10am to 5pm). It boasts a world-class gallery hosting photography exhibitions to inspire all, supported by a programme of talks, workshops, and screenings.

Opposite the RPS is Martin Parr Foundation (open Thursday to Sunday, 10:30am to 5.30pm), home to an impressive photographic collection and archive, including work from Martin Parr’s own career as an eminent documentary photographer. The gallery welcomes five thought-provoking shows per year, as well as talks, workshops, and festivals, so a visit here is always a fresh experience.

The city also plays host to annual exhibitions Photo Open Exhibition at RWA and Wildlife Photographer of the Year.


Weston Museum

Take a break in the spacious surroundings of the award-winning Bocabar café bar, housed within a redbrick warehouse in the Paintworks, then walk or bus to Bristol Temple Meads for a train to Weston-super-Mare.

Around ten minutes’ walk from the station, you’ll find Weston Museum (open Tuesdays to Saturdays, 10am to 4pm). Among the artworks and artefacts on display here are photographs and seaside snaps capturing Weston-super-Mare in times gone by.
