Outdoor Dining

From outdoor gardens in country pubs to the waterfront restaurants along the floating harbour, a trip to Bristol isn't complete without having a beverage or a bite to eat outdoors.

We aren't always blessed with the sunshine in the West, but don't let that put you off. Bristolian diners take every opportunity to eat outdoors at one of the many restaurants, cafes and pubs with outdoor seating.

The most famous of bridges in Bristol is of course Brunel's iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge and equally as famous are the terraces at The White Lion Bar and Goram & Vincent for their panoramic views of the bridge and the Avon Gorge.

You really don't have to go far to get a wonderful al fresco dining experience in Bristol, from the harbourside views of No.1 Harbourside,  Harbour House, Mud Dock, The Stable, Riverstation and Arnolfini Cafe Bar, through to the large colourful rooftop terraces at Bambalan and 360 Cafe.

For pubs with a waterfront view, head to The Ostrich or The Cottage in the Floating Harbour, or Chequers Inn and Lock Keeper along a quieter stretch of the River Avon. You’ll also find a buzzing atmosphere on the large terrace at the King Street Brew House in the city centre.

If you're looking for a quieter al fresco spot, get yourself over to the cosy hidden gardens at KASK in Bedminster or The Square Kitchen in Clifton.

Bristol also has a wealth of markets if you're after some tasty street food to enjoy from local traders, stop into the historic St Nicholas Market throughout the week, Temple Quay Market on Tuesdays and Thursdays, or Finzels Reach Market on Wednesdays and Fridays. There's also the popular Harbourside Street Food Market at lunchtimes from Wednesday to Sunday. Just outside the city centre, you can find local producers, makers and food traders at Whiteladies Road Market on Saturday mornings, or Tobacco Factory's Sunday Market in Bedminster.

Make the most of the scenic countryside near Bristol, where you can enjoy a rural stroll before refuelling at a traditional country pub - Ring O' Bells in Chew Valley has a huge garden with pretty views, The Railway Inn is next to the Strawberry Line cycle path and Thatchers Cider farm, or you can take a riverside seat at Lock Keeper.

Whether you're here on a romantic break, for a family adventure or with your four-legged friend, there is great food to be eaten, ample local beverages to sample and plenty to keep the children entertained.
