Cricket in Bristol

Gloucestershire Cricket are one of the 18 professional cricket clubs in the UK. Their home turf is The Brightside Ground in Horfield, North Bristol and, over the summer season, reguarly play matches that are a great day out for all the family.

If you're staying in Bristol and are a cricket fan then you may be lucky to catch a game, or perhaps plan your visit to include this in your itinerary and experience an evening's cricket with friends. Bristol regularly hosts international cricket matches, including many One-Day Internationals and the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Bristol has been awarded three games at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 when the tournament returns to England and Wales:

• Saturday 1st June 2019 – Afghanistan v Australia (Day/Night)
• Friday 7th June 2019 – Pakistan v Sri Lanka (Day)
• Tuesday 11th June 2019 – Bangladesh v Sri Lanka (Day)

Bristol has a strong cricket history, including being the birthplace of cricket-legend W.G Grace, who was born in Downend and went on to become one of the first genuine sport stars of a generation. Also in 1899, 13-year-old schoolboy A. E. J. Collins achieved what was, for 116 years, the highest-ever recorded individual score in cricket. He scored 628 not out at Clifton College before going on to serve and give his life at the battle of Ypres in WWI.
