The Bristol Adventures light trail has made a return for 2021, with much-loved Christmas lyrics and film quotes lighting up iconic locations around the city. Head over to our special pages to see what's already lit up and read about where they are along with some (sometimes spurious) #MerryBristmas facts.

We've used Spotify to put together a Bristol ADVENTures playlist for you, the perfect accompaniment to the trail. Each song contains lyrics found illuminated in the city centre – you might discover a version you haven't heard before or reminisce listening to some old favourites.

Bristol Shopping Quarter

If in previous years you’ve been too busy rushing around the shops buying something for Auntie Joyce, then why not take the time this year to really notice the amazing Christmas lights and displays all around Bristol Shopping Quarter.

Funded by Broadmead Bristol BID and stretching throughout Broadmead and The Horsefair, take a wander through, grab a few Christmas presents and enjoy the delights of the German Christmas Market while you are there.

Then head onwards to Cabot Circus where their quirky Christmas lights will be sparking some joy. Don't forget to say hi to the giant Santa as well.

Bristol City Centre

Marvel at the beautiful Christmas lights extending throughout Bristol City Centre from Queen’s Road and Park Street, Old City and King Street, a display of more than a mile of festoon lighting that will make even Rudolph feel weak at the knees.

Funded by Bristol City Centre BID, the lights will be twinkling everyday from 11am – 11pm in the leadup to Christmas. So spend time exploring the lights and spread a little joy by supporting local businesses that are open and operating safely.

Clifton Village

Clifton Village is magical at Christmas, especially the magnificent Christmas Tree in The Mall Gardens. Saturdays in December are the perfect time to admire it, when there’ll be late night shopping until 7pm, carol singing, mulled wine and entertainment.

Christmas Nights at Avon Valley Adventure and Wildlife Park

Using their lake and trees as a wonderful backdrop, Avon Valley has collaborated with an award-winning lighting specialist to create their Christmas light trail. Part of their Christmas Nights celebrations, you can also make the most of festive photo opportunities in the Enchanted Village, ride the Polar Express Miniature Steam Train and fill up on festive food and drink.

Discover the trees of Westonbirt Arboretum in a whole new light along the Christmas Illuminated Trail this December. See the trees lit up as you wander through the glades and help reunite Santa with his lost reindeer.

The Enchanted Garden of Light at American Museum & Gardens

Take in spectacular light displays across the house, gardens and woodlands at the American Museum in Claverton. Sparkling reindeer will guide your way as you enter mesmerising tunnels of light and are greeted with the delightful sights, smells and tastes of the most wonderful season of all.

Winter Wonderland at Wookey Hole

See the famous Wookey Hole caves near Wells, Somerset draped in twinkly Christmas lights for a magical underground adventure. Wander through the caves (home to the legendary Witch of Wookey), meet Santa in his grotto and enjoy other festivities such as the Christmas Circus Show.

Christmas at The Bishop's Palace

After their popularity last year, the illuminations at The Bishop’s Palace gardens in Wells are back. Inside the Palace, rooms will also be adorned with decorations on different themes, from medieval through Victorian to Nordic. There’ll also be a roaring fire and seasonal greenery in the Entrance Hall.

Spectacle of Light at Sudeley Castle & Gardens

Head to the beautiful Sudeley Castle & Gardens in Winchcombe, Gloucestershire on selected evenings from 3 to 31 December for their dazzling illuminated trail. Discover the new Light Curve and flickering flames of the Queens’ garden, sparkling water features, the mesmerising Carpet of Colour, light beams, lanterns and much more.

Light Up Bristol at Ashton Court Estate

Walk through the beautiful grounds of Ashton Court Estate and enjoy the wonder of Light Up, an illuminated walking experience running until Christmas Eve. Warm up with mulled wine and hot chocolate as you admire the illuminations.

Robin Robin Mural Trail from Aardman, Netflix and Upfest

Although there are no lights, this is a festive trail not to miss, starring a very Bristol combo of Aardman and street art. The award-winning animation studio has teamed up with Netflix, street art festival Upfest and local artist Alex Lucas to bring murals inspired by their new festive animation, Robin Robin, to the streets of Bedminster.

There are 11 pieces to see spanning from North Street all the way down to Nelson Parade, with a handy map to help you find them all.

Portishead High Street

Portishead Christmas lights are some of the best local Christmas lights in the West. They extend throughout the High Street, which is full of local and independent shops, and feature around 8,000 bulbs. Each year volunteers from the coastal Somerset town spend their time making sure the lights get better and better.

Brailsford Christmas Lights

Each year the Brailsford family from Brentry in Bristol put on the most incredible Christmas light display. The display has grown and grown and now raises thousands of pounds for local children’s charities each year. Head here for all the information about the Brailsford lights including how to find them.

Almondsbury Christmas Light Display

Another local family that bringing festive cheer and raising money for local charities with their annual Christmas lights are Graham and Sue from Almondsbury. They’re soon retiring in Cornwall, which means this is the final year to see their glorious display (although they’ve promised to continue the tradition at their new Cornwall home!).

Shine Bright for Bristol's Children's Hospital

Bristol Children’s Hospital dedicated charity, The Grand Appeal, has created a handy online guide for a wintry walk around some of the region’s most illuminating house and street Christmas light displays this season with its ‘Shine Bright for Bristol Children's Hospital’ interactive map.

There are 30 streets and 100 festive homes across Bristol, Portishead and Weston-super- Mare featuring as stars on the map. Each of the amazing communities of supporters are decorating and lighting up their homes, windows and gardens this year to raise money for the Bristol Children’s Hospital.
