4 min readA day out at Bristol’s surprising science experience, We The Curious, is the perfect way to enjoy some time out together over the summer holidays.
You’ll find We The Curious right in the heart of Bristol’s historic harbourside. Step through the rainbow-coloured entrance to two floors full of things to do.
Come with friends or family, toddlers or teenagers. Solve puzzles, climb inside a giant bubble, and enjoy tasty experiments.
1. You can let your imagination take over
Ever wondered how it would feel to fly through Saturn’s rings or turn yourself invisible? If you’re looking to get away from it all this summer, a day out at Bristol’s science experience is a chance to make memories, get creative and let your imaginations run free!
As well as two floors of interactive exhibits to explore together, families can enjoy a special programme of activities in ‘Summer of Imagination’, which runs 23 July to 1 September.

2. You can take a trip to the stars
We The Curious is home to the UK’s only 3D planetarium and watching one of their shows, which are written in-house and delivered live by a presenter is, well, magic. Be transported by the stories told by ancient star gazers, see Saturn’s rings up close, or head off on a search for extra-terrestrial life.
Little ones can enjoy a delightful 2D show featuring resident alien, Blurgle Wurgle. Planetarium shows are a small additional cost of £4 per person.
3. It’s a chance to get creative (including the grown-ups)
Stop off at the Investigation Station, where you’ll find the daily challenge chosen by the Live Science team. Will you step into the shoes of Early Man? Explore invisibility through magic tricks? Or learn about this summer’s eclipse?
4. You can explore food science (and let someone else clear up the mess)
Join in with experiments in the summer Kitchen. Learn how to make delicious plant-based burgers, explore the chemistry of mayonnaise or have a go at making a cooling fruit sorbet.

5. You can imagine a better future
Try out the latest new exhibit at We The Curious, developed in partnership with Bristol City Leap. Pop a colourful scarf into the map, race your friends, and imagine a Bristol powered by sustainable energy.
Then in the Open City Lab, it’s all about imagining future schools. Listen, dance, draw, make models and feed into a research project.
6. You’ll save on tickets
You can benefit from cheaper ticket prices up until the 1 September due to the Government’s Great British Summer Saving scheme. If you book ahead by 22 July for the summer holidays (23 July to 1 September), you’ll get an additional 20% off. Book tickets
7. You can stay all day
Your tickets last all day, so you can pop out for ice creams and sunshine, and then back into the cool. There are plenty of cafés and restaurants close by on the historic harbourside. You’ll also find a vintage summer fairground and attractive fountains just outside on Millennium Square.
The centre’s delicious vegetarian café has a menu of fresh salads, toasties and tempting cakes and has outdoor tables. Children’s meals are cheaper due to the VAT reduction. If you prefer to bring your own food, there’s an indoor picnic area.

Opening times
The science centre is open every day of the school holidays. Term-time hours (closed on Mondays) resume on the 7 September.
Tickets and prices
We recommend booking ahead as the centre does become fully booked at peak times.
We The Curious are taking part in the Government’s Great British Summer Saving scheme, which means tickets are cheaper until the 1 September.
