Thursday 8 May 2025 is the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe or VE Day, which marked the end of the second world war in Europe. There are celebrations and commemorations across the city, including Celebrate VE80 at Berkeley Castle and Spirit of '45 at Aerospace Bristol, both taking place from 4 - 5 May 2025. You can also join in a VE Day Celebration at Kingswood Heritage Museum on Monday 5 May, or book on to their talk about Americans in Bristol during WW2 in June.
Visit Arnolfini from 9 May – 29 June to enjoy a free exhibition of WWII woven tapestry devoted to Black British, African, Caribbean and African American service people to celebrate the 80th anniversary of VE day. This new tapestry, woven on a digital loom, is based on photographs from Getty, Imperial War Museum, Wickham Historical Society, Airborne Assault Museum and private collections.
