Illuminated trails and light shows

Explore the Winter Wonderland at Wookey Hole, with caves illuminated by 100,000 fairy lights, or head to Westonbirt Arboretum for their brand-new festive light trail, featuring a series of dazzling new illuminated artworks among the trees.

The legendary Festival of Light is back at Longleat from November to January, and you can also see some impressive light trails at Old Down Estate, Avon Valley Adventure and Wildlife Park and Sudeley Castle.

Don't miss the spectacular light show Luxmuralis at Bristol Cathedral from 25 - 29 November, or a mesmerising drone show inspired by A Christmas Carol from 19 - 21 December.

Festive theatre

Kickstart your festive celebrations with an evening at the theatre. If you're looking for a traditional pantomime, book a ticket to see Goldilocks and the Three Bears at Bristol Hippodrome, or  Jack and the Beanstalk at The Redgrave Theatre.

 Enjoy a classic tale in Mary Poppins at Bristol HippdromeHansel & Gretel at Tobacco Factory Theatres or The Gingerbread Boy at The Redgrave Theatre, or head to Bristol Old Vic for some twists on familiar stories, with The Little Mermaid or Little Red.

For something a bit different, watch an improvised Christmas show in This Is Your Festive Musical at Bristol Improv Theatre, or head to The Spiegeltent on Bristol's harbourside to see a range of spectacular shows, from cabaret to family raves.

Family-friendly events

Step into Wallace’s workshop and help him and Gromit save Christmas in A Cracking Christmas Experience, or watch classic Christmas films in special locations with Bristol Film Festival, including the Harry Potter films in the grand surrounds of Clifton College, or Muppet Christmas Carol at The Mount Without. 

Looking for some indoor fun? Explore over 200 intriguing things to do across two floors, or watch a 3D Planetarium show at We The Curious.

National Trust properties Tyntesfield and Dyrham Park near Bristol are full of warmth and sparkle this Christmas, with everything from craft workshops and family trails to winter lights and visits from Father Christmas.

Slide into the festive spirit with Twilight Tobogganing at Mendip Activity Centre, or explore their enchanted woodland walk to a magical grotto, marshmallows, hot chocolate and sparklers. Kids will also love the outdoor fun on offer at Mojo Active's Christmas holiday clubs.

Step into the festively-decorated woodland at Bristol Zoo Project and see if you can find some sheep in their Find the Flock trail.

Families visiting Wookey Hole can meet Santa, enjoy a festive circus show, and take part in a range of activities, from exploring the caves to watching a 4D cinema show.
