Small Business Saturday takes place on 2 December - a jolly good reminder to shop local this Christmas and get out and explore more than 450 festive market stalls in Bristol; the City Made for Christmas.

Visit Made in Bristol’s festive pop-up shop at The Architecture Centre for an eclectic range of locally made artwork, jewellery, toys, ceramics, clothing and home accessories. Meet a maker, buy something beautiful and support the local creative economy - everything on sale is designed and made in the UK, including a range of exclusive products inspired by the city. 

Follow the smell of glühwein and bratwurst to Bristol Shopping Quarter where you’ll find tinsel-topped stalls selling everything from sweet treats to Christmas crafts. Make sure you leave time for mulled wine and merrymaking in the new Jägerbarn bar and beer garden.

Running alongside Bristol Christmas Market is the Local Christmas Market. Discover local artists and makers selling fair-trade produce, unique handmade goods and festive food and drink. It’s the perfect place to pick up some Christmassy table treats such as scrumptious West Country cider, cheese and chestnuts.

Sing along to Christmas carols by Bristol University Madrigal Ensemble as you peruse gifts galore (think artisan choccies, soaps and Italian foodie treats) at the city’s impressive natural history museum. There’ll be plenty to keep the kids entertained too. 

Head to the Harbourside Christmas Market (weekends only 25 Nov -24 Dec) for a glittery Maker’s Market under the covered walkway, plus the ever-popular Street Food Market. Soak up the wintry atmosphere while you eat, drink and shop alongside a bustling bar of winter-themed drinks, yuletide decorations and live music throughout. It’s also just steps away from attractions such as the ice rink at We the Curious and Bristol Hippodrome (the festive panto this year is Aladdin).

Bristol’s biggest designer-maker fair returns to Colston Hall this Christmas. Over four floors you’ll find jewellery, clothing, quirky accessories, artwork and more.  Keep shopping energy levels up by refuelling at the Colston Street Bar and Kitchen or Beerd bar and pizzeria.

While you're in town, be sure to visit one of Bristol's most historic shopping venues, The Arcade, home to around twenty mostly independent shops and cafés. Look out for the Bazaar Makers Market (1-3 Dec) - a pop-up gift shop stocked with handmade items from local creatives. Every purchase made there on Small Business Saturday wins an entry into their Small Business Raffle with fantastic prizes. Stop and search for craft and curios to dazzle loved ones at a pop-up shop based in this atmospheric former police station. From woolly hats to temporary tats, glittery jumpsuits to underpants and gin, everything here is curated entirely with Bristol-based artists, designers and makers.

M Shed will be hosting an Etsy Made Local pop-up with work from fantastic local artists, crafters, and makers selling illustrations, homeware, clothing, art, stationary, ceramics, knitwear, jewellery and cosmetics... Not forgetting a pop-up festive café and some classic Christmas tunes! Once you’ve had your shopping fill, discover Bristol’s social history in this fascinating Harbourside museum.

A trip to Bristol’s famous St Nick’s Christmas Market (2-24 Dec) in the Old City is sure to get you in the yuletide spirit. Feast on seasonal delights and pick up quirky stocking fillers from all sorts of artisans including the Bristol Tea Company, Liz Issacs’ Handmade Pottery and Outside the Box – specialising in vegan beauty products.

Over in Clifton, don't miss the Christmas Fayre on picturesque Royal York Crescent. There’ll be carols, Father Christmas, breath-taking views over the city and fifty stalls selling crafts and food. Afterwards, seek out more presents with a stroll through Clifton Village’s Victorian arcade and boutique shops – a charming place to wander at any time of year, but particularly magical after the ‘Christmas Light Switch On’ (8 Nov), when the streets are set aglow with fairy lights and miniature Christmas trees decorate shop fronts.

Jingle all the way to Gloucester Road, on Europe’s longest stretch of independent shops, for Small Business Saturday (2 Dec), where you’ll be able to snap up one-off discounts by local traders. From Cox & Baloney's vintage tea rooms on Cheltenham Road up to Nailsea Electrical's Xmas Tavern, there’ll also be all sorts of festive entertainment including storytelling, mini workshops and choirs to serenade shoppers.

Traders on Pigsty Hill, Gloucester Rd will also be launching Thursday late openings in December with a festive street party. Bishop Road Community Choirs will be serenading shoppers, there’ll be festive wreath making from Golden Hill Allotments and lots of lovely food and drink. Follow their Facebook page for updates.

Bristolmade is hosting a Christmas Market in The Greenbank Pub, Easton. Pop along for the chance to swig some mulled cider and pick up some locally-made joyous goodies. Makers will be selling vegan and cruelty free beauty products, paper wallets, hand-printed t-shirts, aprons, leggings, jewellery, art and more!

Climb the mighty hill of Park Street to explore a variety of independent, high-end and high-street shops, before stopping in at the Folk House’s Festive Market for vintage, cosmetics, bric-a-brac, arts and crafts and The Folk House Cafe & Bar's mince pies! 

Take the whole family to Arnos Vale Christmas Market – a beautiful Victorian sanctuary just off the Bath Road. Browse local crafts and produce from silk scarves to sausages and be sure to leave time for some Christmas-themed fireside storytelling with Time and Tide Taletellers Tales of Fire and Ice at 1pm and 3pm.

Pick up handmade gifts, buy from home-grown food producers and roast chestnuts by the fire as the choir serenades you with carols. There’ll also be Christmas trees by Ali & Joe's Christmas Trees, local food, produce and craft, mulled drinks and kids activities.

Bishop Road Primary School, just off Gloucester Road, hosts this Christmas shopping night with local, artisan makers and producers.
